“In a world where we’re often told to think outside the box, at Whits Services Corporation (WSC), we prefer to think about the box itself—and how to turn it into something extraordinary. Welcome to the art of transformative recycling!”— Mark Whitley, Founder and CEO

    Repurposing Waste Items

The Whits Corporation’s journey began more than ten years ago with a basic thought: what if we could change things that most people discard into something useful again? This is how we started recycling big appliances and used bedding. These things are known for being more difficult to recycle, but this is why we choose them. Each washer, dryer, and mattress we keep away from a landfill is a small win for Earth.

I remember the first time we recycled a mass number of appliances. It was very tough work, trying to take them apart and separate all different pieces. But looking at the heaps of metal, plastic, and glass prepared to be reused made all the efforts feel valuable.

The Role of Technology in Our Mission

At WSC, we really value technology. Not the type that just looks cool or is for show, but the kind of technology that truly makes a positive impact. We use some very cool AI to assist us in data collection and reporting. Picture a robot that can know the difference between hand written number 11 and tally marks just by seeing it—that is the type of technology we are using.

This technology not only makes our job simpler; it also makes recycling data cleaner and more effective. It is like having a very intelligent assistant who guarantees we perform at our best every time.

    Building a Community Around Recycling

Recycling is not only a business for us—it is also something we do together with the community. We enjoy going out and discussing with people why recycling is important. Kids always love it, and it’s wonderful to watch young ones become excited about protecting the Earth.

    What’s Next for WSC?

We don’t just stop at appliances and mattresses. There are many other things that also need another opportunity to be useful again. Electronics, plastics—whatever it is, we are exploring ways to recycle them in a responsible and efficient manner.

Our hope is to make a world where nothing goes to waste, and everything that can be recycled does get recycled. We always look for new ways and try out fresh ideas because each little move brings us nearer to a cleaner and greener planet.

Piece contributed by Mark Whitley, Founder and CEO of Whits Services Corporation. Mark stands at the forefront of revolutionizing recycling and waste management across North America and the Caribbean. As the founder and CEO of Whits Corporation (WSC), he has innovatively integrated sustainability with technological advancements in recycling non-traditional materials. His notable achievements include establishing robust recycling programs for major appliances and used bedding, which have been successfully operational for over a decade, demonstrating the effectiveness and sustainability of his strategies.
