Pod expands partnership with Tesco to offer Clubcard points for EV charging

Shoppers will now be able to collect Tesco Clubcard points when they top-up their electric car on a visit to the supermarket, thanks to an expanded partnership between Tesco and Pod.

Clubcard members can now collect a Clubcard point for every pound spent on charging at Pod’s Vauxhall-branded chargers at Tesco stores.

And that’s not all – electric vehicle drivers can now also get 2,500 Clubcard points by signing up to Pod’s all-inclusive home charging subscription Pod Drive* as a new customer. The 2,500 points are worth £25 when converted into Clubcard Vouchers to spend at Tesco, or £50 when doubled in value with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.

Pod Drive is the first new offering following Pod Point’s rebrand to Pod, and cuts over £1,000 in typical upfront costs of getting a home EV charger**. Pod Point chargers, including on the public network, will retain their product branding and sit alongside the Pod Drive proposition under the new Pod brand.

To access the Clubcard points deal with Pod Drive, customers start their order through the offer page on Pod’s website. As part of the sign-up process, they will need to sign into their Tesco Clubcard account to link their order, so that their Clubcard points can be credited once their home charger is successfully installed.

Tesco’s Group Membership and Loyalty Director Shama Wilson said: “Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles we are delighted that shoppers will now be able to collect Clubcard points when they charge their cars at our stores, thanks to our exciting partnership with Pod.

“You can now park at your local Tesco and top-up your electric vehicle while you shop, in the knowledge that you are collecting Clubcard points towards a future Tesco shop or to exchange with one of our Reward Partners.”

Pod’s CEO Melanie Lane said: “We’re thrilled to deepen our longstanding partnership with Tesco and provide an incentive for Clubcard members to make the switch to an EV and join over a quarter million customers that trust Pod with their charging needs.

“We know that the more that EVs blend with peoples’ everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership we’re able to align drivers’ charging experiences across both home and public charging points.

“Fresh from repositioning the business as Pod and launching Pod Drive, we’re committed to building momentum and bringing our brilliant partners on our mission; to make EV charging easy and affordable for everyone.”

The addition of Pod as a Tesco Clubcard points partner strengthens its existing links with the supermarket. Pod has been working in partnership with Tesco since 2019 and today its partnership with Tesco and Vauxhall operates more than 2,600 EV charging bays at more than 600 Tesco store car parks across the UK.

Since the partnership began, EVs have been charged at Pod Points at Tesco stores more than 14.3 million times.
