Cordia Partners with San Fransisco City Loop

Cordia, a leading provider of safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions, is proud to announce its engagement with the San Francisco City Loop, marking a significant step towards enhancing the city’s infrastructure and environmental sustainability.

    ECSF’s Role

Since 1995, Energy Center San Francisco (ECSF) has been providing steam to several prominent City Loop buildings including San Francisco City Hall, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, California State Court House, 101 Grove, and SF Department of Public Health. As of May 2024, ECSF has officially assumed ownership and maintenance responsibility for the piping system, solidifying its commitment to ensuring the seamless operation and longevity of this vital infrastructure.

In collaboration with the City of San Francisco, ECSF is set to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the City Loop, with plans to complete the project by the end of the year. Despite the scale of these refurbishments, ECSF is dedicated to minimizing disruption to steam services, ensuring continued reliability for its customers.

    De-Carbonizing San Fransisco

In tandem with its engagement with the City Loop, ECSF is actively pursuing a de-carbonization plan with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). This initiative aims to transition ECSF’s steam generation from natural gas to carbon-free electricity sourced from the City’s Hetch Hetchy Power System further aligning with San Francisco’s ambitious sustainability goals.

“Our engagement with the San Francisco City Loop emphasizes our commitment to providing sustainable infrastructure solutions that benefit both our clients and the environment,” says Mike Eurkus, General Manager of Cordia. “We are proud to play a pivotal role in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of San Francisco’s energy infrastructure.”

In support of this collaboration, Andrico Penick, Director of Real Estate from the City of San Francisco stated, “We are pleased to work with Cordia in our shared goal of reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable energy solutions, while ensuring a reliable energy source for our buildings. This engagement represents a significant milestone in our efforts to create a greener, more resilient future for San Francisco.”
